Our guides use a small set of verdict labels instead of arbitrary point scores. Here is exactly what each one means and what it takes to earn it.
The verdicts
Best Overall. The pick we would buy for most rooms and most budgets. It wins the category comparison on the things that matter in real use, not on the longest spec sheet.
Best Value. The most performance per dollar. It gives up something versus the Best Overall pick, and the review says plainly what that something is.
Upgrade Pick. Worth the extra money if the category matters to you. The review states what the premium actually buys you.
Skip It. Fails at its core job, or is outclassed at the same price. We name these because knowing what not to buy saves you the most money.
The green verdict badge
The green Our Pick badge appears when a product has won a side-by-side comparison within its guide. One badge per category, so the signal stays meaningful.
Comparison tables
Specs in our comparison tables come from manufacturer documentation and are checked when the guide is published. Prices shown were accurate at publish time and drift afterward; the retailer page is always the source of truth. Monospaced figures are deliberate: if it looks like data, it should be checkable like data.
Picks change
When a pick is discontinued, replaced by a better model, or drops in quality, we update the guide rather than let a stale recommendation stand. Guides show their last updated date.
